Long before the album’s official release, the song was posted to Twitter, linking to a Soundcloud account under the name "Badlands Radio".
This track draws many parallels to "Colors", which appears right next to "Coming Down" on the standard version of the LP. On both tracks, Halsey mentions particular characteristics about their lover, especially with the usage of drugs and the topic of religion.
