In January 2022, Halsey wrote and produced a song, titled "So Good". When the song was withheld from release due to Capitol Records needing to test the song's "virality", while on tour, Halsey posted a TikTok video criticizing Capitol Records on May 22, 2022, for not being allowed to release "So Good" without an "accompanying campaign or TikTok video to make it go viral." Five days prior, without the approval of Capitol, Halsey played a snippet of her song in a TikTok video. In the days following her post, questions arose regarding whether or not Capitol was going to take legal action against her. Music industry attorney Erin M. Jacobson mentioned in an article by TIME that "it is rare that a label would sue one of its own artists, especially when the label plans to continue working with that artist. Further, using such a short piece of the record could also be seen as a promotional use."[64] Capitol Records eventually conceded on May 31, 2022, amid criticism and scrutiny from a variety of music artists, and set a release date for the song of June 9, 2022. But “album mode” is a whole other arena and the games are just beginning."[66] In July 2023, Halsey stated that "As of right now I’m approaching it kinda how I approached manic. No strict genre parameters or anything. Just making what feels good and what hits home :) definitely some of my best songwriting. a lot of life has happened to me since I wrote IICHLIWP".[67] In an Instagram post made two months later, Halsey captioned it "not pictured: me splitting myself in two everyday so that I can give you my deepest wounds (and a handful of perfect joys) for the 5th time in 10 years."[68]

Halsey chronicled their struggles with endometriosis on the talk show The Doctors in April 2018, where she revealed she was going to freeze her eggs.[123] In 2018, Halsey spoke out about her endometriosis once again along with the pain it causes, at the Blossom Ball which is run by the Endometriosis Foundation of America. she stated that, "Sometimes I'm bloated, I'm on an I.V., I'm sick, I'm on medicine, and I'm backstage, terrified that I'm going to bleed through my clothes in the middle of my show." They stated that they wanted to speak out because the media portrays her in perfect physical health when that is not correct.[124] Halsey stated that in the previous year, 2017, she had a surgery to lessen the pain.[125]
In another interview with Rolling Stone, in May 2019, published in June 2019, Halsey stated “I feel like for a normal female performer, she’s like, ‘Fuck, I have my period. I have a show today.’ And for me, it’s like, ‘Fuck, I have my period. I hope I don’t have to go to the hospital.’ ”. In 2019, they got news from their doctor that she no longer had to freeze her eggs, “I was like, "Wait, what did you just say? Did you just say I can have kids?" It was like the reverse of finding out you have a terminal illness. I called my mom, crying.” Halsey stated that she and her assistant Maria joked about a pregnancy pact.[126] On August 14, 2019, Halsey revealed on Twitter that she had quit smoking cigarettes after a decade.[127] On November 18, 2019, Halsey revealed they are gluten intolerant after growing speculation that they were pregnant due to being seen out with their partner's hand on their stomach.[128] November 10, 2020, Halsey released her first book of poetry, I Would Leave Me If I Could., she openly discussed her struggles with sexual assault, mental illness, body image, gender dysmorphia, gender identity.[129][130] On November 21st, 2020, Halsey found out they were pregnant, and announced their pregnancy in late January 2021.[131][132] The same month, Halsey broke their metatarsal bones, they posted on their TikTok account how they broke them,[133] followed by a photo of her going to get it treated and wearing a black walking boot.[134][135][136] On July 14, 2021, Halsey gave birth to their son, Ender Ridley Aydin, whom they share with their partner, Alev Aydin.[131][137][138] The next year, in May 2022, Halsey revealed that their medical issues became severely worse after they got pregnant and subsequently gave birth to their son. Halsey was diagnosed with Ehlers-Dahlos syndrome (EDS), Sjogren's syndrome, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS).[139] To debunk the claims circling around Twitter that the COVID-19 vaccine caused it, they tweeted-and-deleted that almost everything they were diagnosed with had been there before and had only become more surface level/active because they got pregnant and gave birth. They had just never received any diagnosis. On June 4, 2024, Halsey revealed that she has been dealing with a diagnosis of lupus and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder.[140] On June 7, 2024, Halsey filmed a podcast[141] discussing her health with one of her doctors, the podcast aired August 6. Due to announcing their Lupus and T-cell diagnoses, Halsey talked about dealing with numerous health issues throughout the past 10 years with their doctor, Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi, and Mary Alice Haney.[142]
Relationships and sexuality[]

Halsey with their family, Dante (left), Nicole (bottom), Sevian (right)
Within Halsey's familiar relationships there is their mother, Nicole Frangipane father, Christopher Frangipane, their brothers, Sévian and Dante Frangipane, and their son, Ender Ridley Aydin. Halsey stated in a Call Her Daddy podcast that she had a traumatic childhood growing up and has a complicated relationship with her father but is best friends with her mother. They stated that they had written a song about their father and their relationship for every single album, but before release had been too scared to release it, but due to believing the fifth album would be her last before dying from her illness, made the decision to include it as the fifteenth track. Halsey previously had a dog called Jagger, who passed away in 2021, his death is referenced in "Dog Years".[143] Halsey is openly bisexual.[144][145] Halsey has dated people of different genders and sexualities. Since 2014, Halsey has confirmed to have dated Lido, Matty Healy, G-Eazy, YUNGBLUD, Evan Peters, and Alev Aydin. Halsey's relationship with G-Eazy was their most publicised romantic relationship, Halsey stated that within the relationship she experienced abuse and cheating. Both artists made songs toward each other after. Halsey became involved with Machine Gun Kelly and G-Eazy's feud, and responded on Twitter towards a situation of a person tauntingly-screaming his name at a show after their break-up.[146] In a Billboard article in 2017, Halsey revealed that she had kissed a girl at a sleep-away camp, where they both worked as counselors.[147] During a music video for a collaboration ("Eastside") with Benny Blanco, it was revealed that the girl was named Lily.[148] Speaking on her bisexuality, In 2017, Halsey was critiqued for being bisexual while publicly dating only men, she responded that it is not possible to please people as a bisexual person, "The only way to be a #True bisexual is to date 2 people at once."[149] In March 2023, during their radio show For The Record, Halsey was questioned about marriage and had said that they may change their feelings on marriage later but they don't want to get married.[150] As of June 2023, Halsey is currently in a relationship with Canadian actor Avan Jogia.[151] In September 2024, Halsey announced that she and Jogia were engaged.[152] In the Call Her Daddy podcast interview, she stated that meeting Avan changed her mind on marriage.[153] In an interview with Advocate in January 2020, Halsey discussed their gender identity and said "I don’t identify as non-binary or gender-fluid. I don’t personally feel like I’m at the point in my life where I’m prepared to identify that way. Will that change? Possibly. I don’t know. But I’ve never felt any reason to change the way that I refer to my gender identity. My gender identity has always been super, super fluid. And I didn’t live in a place that was very forgiving of that.[154] In an Instagram post on February 19, 2021 she talked about how their pregnancy leveled their "perception of gender entirely."[155] On March 13, 2021 Halsey updated their social media biography and announced that their pronouns are she/they.[2][156][157] She thanked her fans with an Instagram post the same day, saying “thank u.”
Activism[]
She is and has been an activist in the past, giving speeches about women's rights and feminism. During the 2016 United States presidential election, Halsey was an avid supporter of Bernie Sanders and urged her fans to vote for him. At the 2018 Women's March Halsey performed a five-minute poem titled "A Story Like Mine",[158] in which they told personal stories of sexual assault and violence throughout their life.[159] She talked about her Endometrisis at the Endometrisis Foundation of America on March 19, 2018.[160] She then made another speech, reading out her poetry at Glamour for Women of the Year Summit on November 11, 2018.[161][162] Halsey further endorsed Sanders in the 2020 presidential election.[8][163] After the brutal murder of George Floyd, which sparked the Black Lives Matter movement, Halsey attended several protests for racial justice alongside ex-boyfriend YUNGBLUD.[164] To further cement her support for the movement Halsey launched the Black Creators Funding Initiative on June 12, 2020. The fund helps black creators through donations and by amplifying their art, voices and perspectives, it also provide financial support, resources, and a platform to black creators.[165]
