American singer and songwriter Halsey has been releasing material since 2014 when she independently put out her debut single "Ghost" which has been certified Platinum in the US and Gold in Australia. After being signed to Astralwerks Records she released her debut EP Room 93 on October 27, 2014 and then toured with larger acts to promote it and her then-upcoming debut album.
Halsey then released her debut album, Badlands, on August 28, 2015. It debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 with 115,000 sales in its first week of release. It also charted in the top ten of Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and several other countries. Badlands has sold 626,000 copies in the United States and has been certified Platinum by the RIAA; it sold 106,804 copies and was certified Gold in the UK.
In 2016, Halsey found extreme success as a featured vocalist on "Closer", a collaboration with The Chainsmokers. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 consecutive weeks, topped the charts of over 20 other countries, and sold more than 15 million units worldwide. It is one of the most-streamed songs on Spotify, and earned Halsey a Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
Halsey's second studio album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, was released on June 2, 2017 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 106,000 sales in its first week of release, becoming the first number one album by a female artist that year. It also debuted at number one in Canada and reached the top ten in Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand. Hopeless Fountain Kingdom has sold 251,000 copies in the US and has been certified Platinum in Canada and the US, and Silver in the UK. Its lead single, "Now or Never", peaked at number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached the top forty in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. It has been certified double Platinum in Australia and the US, platinum in Canada, Gold in Italy and New Zealand, and Silver in the UK. It has sold 500,000 units outside of the country.
In late 2017, Halsey also collaborated with her ex-boyfriend G-Eazy for the song "Him & I", which reached the top ten of Canada and Germany and peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. It has since been certified triple Platinum in Canada, double Platinum in Australia and the US, Platinum in Sweden, and Gold in Belgian, Italy, and New Zealand.
In July 2018, Halsey sang with Khalid on Benny Blanco's debut single "Eastside", which topped the charts of five countries and peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100. It went on to spend over a year charting on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Halsey’s second song to achieve this. It has sold over three million units worldwide.
In April 2019, Halsey collaborated with Korean boy band, BTS on the song, "Boy With Luv". The music video went on to become the most viewed online music video in 24 hours, garnering 74.6 million views in its first day of release. The song debuted and peaked at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 and also reached the top ten in Australia and Canada. It has been certified Platinum in the US.
Halsey's third studio album, Manic (2020), debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 with 239,000 sales in its first week of release, making it her biggest album debut of her career. It also reached the top ten in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and the UK. Its lead single, "Without Me", became one of her biggest songs since "Closer" in 2016. It reached the top three of several countries, including Australia, Canada and the UK, and peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, making it her first number one as a lead artist.
